NAME

Syntax:

name <name prefix> % <name suffix>

Use this command to more explicitly say what your name is. The percent sign is used where you want your MAIN name to be inserted. You MUST include your main name in your extended name so that people know how to talk to you. :)

Examples will best clarify this feature:

name John % This would set 'Handel' to 'John Handel'.
name King % I This would set 'John' to 'King John I'.

NOTE: PCs putting things that should rather be put in their title or who put obnoxious names in for their character will be reprimanded. If you ignore the warnings, your ability to name will be taken away to be restored at the cost of some extensive, painful quest.

NEWBIE

(also NEWBIES)

If you are just starting to play this mud, the best thing you can do is spend some time paging through the help files.

NOTE! All of this help can be read on Tera's web page. This can be a lot more convenient.

Be sure to read help on rent so that you know how to save your items. You save items at one of the receptionists in the game. The most accessible receptionist to people just starting out can be found upstairs in the Leering Gargoyle Inn which is just south and east of the Temple Square.

Various rules and guidelines can be browsed through in the law section of the help. Things that are outlawed are listed here as well as policies on various issues.

It is important that you do not kill innocent creatures in the town unless you know what you are doing for the guards in the town will track you down and pulp you. The guards will also track you down if you kill another human player outside of a dueling ground. Further, try to avoid dying. Dying is very costly because you will lose a third of your experience points.

Once you obtain enough experience points to gain a level, you must find out where your guildmaster for your class is located. The lower level guildmasters are fairly easy to find and are all located in the town where new players start out. You can talk with your guildmaster to gain levels and practice command to learn new skills and get better in old ones.

If you can do ANSI or VT100 terminal emulation, be sure to read help on the color command.

Also, read help on help by entering entering help all by itself. The help will refer you to several major help topics so be sure to read those as well.

You can usually find someone who is willing to help you out, so read help on communications to figure out how to talk to them.

NEWS

Syntax:

news [old] <areas|code|gods|motd|splash>

This command will show you the current edition of the news. It is a VERY good idea to check it out once in a while. NOT checking it out will probably get you killed.

There are three different sections to the news. The areas section lists recent changes to the worldfiles. The code section summarizes recent additions to the code. Finally, the gods section covers all changes that relate gods -- this includes areas, code, and policies. The motd option will show you the message of the day. The splash option will show you the opening "splash" screen.

Note that you must be an immortal to be able to read the god news.

If you specify the old option, the older version of the news section that you specify will be listed.

NICE

Syntax:

nice

This command works as a toggled mode. If you active the nice mode, the mud will not let you attack players using standard killing commands. For example, it will be impossible to accidentally assassinate a friendly PC when you really meant to assist them. It is still possible to kill other PC's using area effect spells and so on, however. That is a tactical issue.

Enter nice in again to disable nice mode.

The nice flag is ignored in the arena or battlefield, and against players who are known to be unpunished PC-killers or PC-thieves.

NICKNAME

Syntax:

nickname <name of person>|<set of nicknames>|delete

This command can be used to set up short nicknames for your character. Nicknames will make it easier for others to talk to you.

Example:

nickname drac dracul

Would be a good command for someone named 'draculionias' enter.

You can find out what nicknames people have set up for themselves by entering "nickname <name of that person>". Ex: nickname torsias would show you a list of keywords Torsias could be referred to as.

You can erase your nicknames by entering 'nickname delete'.

Entering 'nickname' by itself will show you what your current nicknames are.

NOTE: As with "name", if you abuse this command, it will be taken away from you and it will be difficult to get it back. (Some long, painful quest probably.)

ALL NICKNAMES MUST BE AT LEAST TWO LETTERS. Preferably at least three.
