The History of the Town of Mozartia (Latest version edited by Brother Edicar)
Mozartia was the first true town to be formed by the forsaken population of Tera. It is to this day, if not the largest, by far the most cosmopolitan of Terran cities. No single race, class, political group or guild dominates. All live side by side in the best harmony Tera can provide. The town is run by mayorship and council, and only lands immediately outside its walls, as well as the Olden Road for some leagues further, fall under the city's jurisdiction and protection. The city gates are open to all who wish to enrich the city with trade or culture.
Mozartia's history is somewhat bizarre. It is the creation of a band of pop-culture icons. Back in the day when the Empire was still in control, and the first prisoners were being sent to Tera, there was a very popular musical group, called Solartone. Solartone was top-ten in over 436 star systems. They were quadrillionares. They were also idealists, unfortunately. The band refused to sell out when they made it big, continuing to write songs which couched questions about the stability of the Empire and the ruling class. On the day that their song, "Rusted Roots," hit number one on the IGPC no.1, the band was reported as missing. The official story was put out that the band's space cruiser, the Melennium Beagle, slammed into an asteroid near the Vega cluster. The Beagle did indeed slam into an asteroid, but the band wasn't on the ship. They were taken alive by Imperial marines, who subsequently set the ship to slam into said asteroid. After a brief bit of government-sponsered torture, the band's five members and manager were sent through the door.
They wandered around on the big continent for almost two horrible years before they finally realized their own method of survival had been with them since day one. The band camped themselves a few miles north of a swamp in the middle of the biggest continent on Tera and began to hold concerts, come one, come all. The instruments they used were at first quite crude, but a very skilled magician, Tor of Lungview, happened by one day and solved their problems. He made a deal with them. If they would remain right there, permanently camped, and continue to promote a peaceful message, he would provide them with what magic they needed to create finer instruments.
This was not simply an altruistic act by Tor, for he was also somewhat of a high-ranking merchant and had built his castle nearby. Peace in the area, at this moment in Terran history, meant stability and profit for merchants, for roads were safer. Tor also knew that a town would likely form around the band's concert pavilion: already a Fair had grown and was becoming a 24-hour-a-day event. The situation had enormous potential. A town did grow around the pavilion (which was called Market Square Pavilion, after an Earthly legend). Tor also became quite rich, but his magic outshined his monetary skills, and he became, and still is, one of the greater immortals.
The last surviving Solartone member, Dukie Thulls, is responsible for the naming of the town. For most of its life it had been referred to by all as "Solartown," after the band's name. On his deathbed, Dukie changed it on a whim, naming it after a composer from Earth's pre-space era, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, i.e. Mozartia. The town, showing its love and respect for the founding father, changed the name immediately, and never again was heard the name Solartown.
(on a local note, let it be known that to this day all terran historians make it a point to journey to the legendary Market Square in the center of Mozartia and feel the weight of the years)
