SETUP

Usage
Tera's Java Client utilizes Sun's Java Plugin to allow the applet to run on any Navigator 3.x and above and Internet Explorer 3.02 and above. Currently the plugin has support for Windows and Solaris platforms. For Linux version of the Java Plugin please go to http://www.blackdown.org/java-linux.html.

The Java Plugin does not work through firewalls, yet

Directions
If you load this page and a jigsaw image appears where the client should be, please click on the image and select get the plugin.
You will then be directed to Sun's Download page for the plugin, select your platform and follow the instructions.
Once installed, you will have to restart your browser for the plugin to load and you'll be all set.
The beauty of the plugin is that it will automatically update itself so that you are always using the lastest version of the JDK.

Instructions

  1. Detaching the Window
If you are actually going to use the client, it is suggested that you detach the client from the browser and then maximize the resulting detached window. This will give you the most screen area for the client.

  2. Entering Commands
There are 2 ways to enter commands through the Java Client, the command line at the bottom of the client screen, and the command line editor (Alt-E) once the client has been detached.

  3. Scrolling through Command History
The up and down arrow keys can be used to scroll through previously entered commands, while the escape key will reset the current line.

  4. Writing a Message/Note
When you are going to write a letter or post a note on a board, the Java Client text editor automatically appears when you enter the initial commands to start the process. This editor is a separate window and you can switch between it and the main client window freely so that game play need not be interrupted while writing. One caution, opening more than one text editor at the same time will cause spurious results.

  5. Cut and Paste
Because of applet security restrictions, the Java Client cannot access the system clipboard. If you would like to cut-and-paste between the Java Client text editor, you can use the platform-specific control options to do the cut-and-paste. For example, under Windows, you can right-click inside the text editor to perform a cut-and-paste operation.
